In 1943 Dr. B. Benedict Glazer, Rabbi of Temple Beth El in Detroit offered to bring leading Jewish scholars to the area to present an Institute on Judaism for Christian Clergy. The Council extended the invitation and has continued to do so ever since, with several hundred now attending. The Interfaith Round Table of NCCJ is another way the Council reaches out, promoting for many years the Rearing Children of Goodwill Conference. In 1975 the Council worked with the Round Table to produce a remarkable booklet for the bicentennial on the historical churches, synagogues, and mosques of the Detroit area. An Interfaith Thanksgiving Service is organized by the Council to be held on the Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving in the USA. This takes place at a Synagogue, Church, or Mosque. Interfaith Odyssey is a weekly TV series produced for Bloomfield Community Television and also aired at 7:00 AM on WTVS (channel 56), designed to discuss similarities and differences between major faith groups. |
