added photos of the new Minichamps 993 turbo and the Minichamps C2 aka 964 turbo, in my review section 993 turbo is gone over, the 964 turbo is nice certainly a zillion times better than the NZG version my only critique is the front bumper"smile" is a little thick, recently saw teh Hot wheels 996 cabrio in silver only a fair model buy it only if you must have one, body a little coarse the UT/gate version is much much better, I am always happy when a manufacturer does a Porsche but this time they couldve done better, the Burago 996 GT3 i have recently bought is nioce still not up to par w/the UT models stuf, this one oddly is from Porsche, i'd think theyd wait til the better stuff comes out, the model is ok 1/18 metal accurate engine and interiror but sits a little high and jsut doesnt look as good Ut makes cars its rather annoying as burago has been in the business so much longer why cant they do better?, the Revell/momgram Champion GT1 has reached hobby shops , for those of us who still build models Scalemotorsports GT1 detail set for teh Tamiya GT1is out, turned metal, photo etch springs, carbon fiber decals, its expensive stuff but when you gotta have the best...11 dec 99 added review of minichamps 1/43 99310 dec 99 new pics added of the fly GT1 98 slot car in 1/32 scale and vitesse carbon fiber test car in 1/43 also the super rare 1/87 s porsche turbo cast in silver by a local jeweler available only at the porsche factory museum, have recntly received teh turbo history set which inclides a 1/43 993 turbo by... minichamps full review soon12 Nov 99 sorry so few updates am trying to return from the near dead , i'll be back soon!!!!! but anyway jsut put in the Fabspeed sport exhasust on my car and it rocks expensive for what you get and verry loud but i love it , just got MR 72 which is the 993 turbo S one of 100 all in yellow damn this is beautiful pics one of these days if you love Boxsters go to toys R us the Barbie boxster in 1/6 thscale is on clearnce for only $10 worrth it even if youre picking it up to trade for other stuff an awesome replica jsut dont put on the barbie stickers its like a perfect replica 26 sept 99 sorry no updates for a while some new releases coming w/the new 996 turbo porsche exclusives a 4 car set in 1/43rd all in silver turbo 3.0, C2 turbo twin turbo and 996 turbo , induivudually in 2 colors i belive speed yellow and red this 1/43 by minchamps , in 1/87 by herpa in blue and black, in 1/18 by bburago an r/c version also , the gt1 evo by revell hasarrived i shall caompare it to the ut but on first look it seems more accurate, scale designs has announced a 911 GT1 detail set turned aluminum parts . photoetch and more carbon decals, in 1/32 slot cars FLY hjs released the gt1 98 carbon test car, in 1/43 onyx has released the GT1 98 carbon test car and LeMans versions li ited and nubered thes are so get now or miss out it seems, the 993 turbo is mentioned in Motor Trend Magazines 50th anniv issue, i shall update pics one of these days 13 aug 99 also in hot wheels colectors editon 930 turbo essentially anniv edtion car but in shite apparetnly the revell GT1 evo has appeared i sahll seek one out have latest scale auto modeler mag has article about ut evo show s poor fitting rear deck and window frame not so great29 July 99 new boxsters seen by matchbox burgundy and unpainted in first releas version almost as good as hot wheels collectors edition Hot Wheels collectors editon in special box silver w/tan int and proper wheels an excellent replica the latest Motor Racing Models Magazine is a Porsche Special definteily worth having The Hot Wheels GT3 is not up to the standard that the cars in the 50th annivesrary set, new 996 turbo purported to have 420 hp, no models seen yet still waitng for release of the revell 97 GT1, Provence Moulage has announced a Footwork Porsche F1 car in 1/43 11 July 99 received the UTmodels 993 turbo in silver and the turbo S in yellow see new review below 25 June 99 well the new turbo S motronic box is installed as is the strut brace all i can say is wow feels much more powerful although i know its not a lot more power (424 hp), but if you can find a motronic for a good price go for it very easily installed and lots of fun. The strut tower brace has made fornt end feel a bitmore solid and well worth the 240 dollars or so you can get them from porsche, new model news Anson has anounced a turbo Polizei need for speed 9.25/10 , the lastest issue of Scale Auto Modeler has a review ot the tamiya 996 in it they give it good marks, I recently bought strut tower brace and turboS breainbox for my car more news when i instll them28 march 99 Big NEWS Alleged 996 turbo pics on this website Porsche 911 Turbo Club pictures froma good source so I believe them, 993 turbo prices appear to be droping recently alot of cars soming on market, so the word is out, maybe a great time to pisck up a 993 turbo as it in my opinion is prettier although some may claim I'm biased 26 Mar 99 returned fro the strictly 43rd showw last weekend a nice show not alot Porsche to report, Henk Koop of Porsche Modell Club tells me his website may be up next week, lots of new sasnounscemenats the Tamiya GT1 98 is confirmed in 1/24, Maisto apaprently has exclusive to 1/18 GT1 98 those are in US now pics look good factory and Zakspeed version, Revell/monogram GT1 evo 97 still comng, PMA/Minichamps new 917L, 917K and 936 coming currently part of Porsche LeMans winners series only Shuco piccolo Fletcher aviation 550 and 356 cabrio polizei more GT1 98 in 1/43 by onyx, Revell/italerei 996 in 1/24 plastic kit (buy tamiyas its much better), in 1/32 slot cars of GT1 98 by Carrera in both factory and zakspeed versions10 Mar 99 i just receved the clearview 911 GT1 race car by Tamiya essentially identical to the regular release except for some clear body panels worth having however ive also been made awre that Rennaissance makes a GT1 inretior detail set, mines on order UT models GT1 97 evo in 1/24 scale arrived the other day this car compares favorably to the tamiya kit and it has underhood detail for the froint which the tamiysa kit lacks a kitbash of the two would be great for the clearview, a brief reveiew although kits are of 2 slightly diff models,,body tamiyas has crisper panel lines the UT has a plastic that is glossy i suspect they have designed kit for those who may be unwilling to paint The UT is same width as the Tamiya and this however may be inaccurate as i recall the 97 had wider front track and i assume car is wider but ive been to lazy to check in book this is perhaps the only negative thing i can say about this kit decals excellent on both the UT has nicer gold on the Warsteiner decals i also feel the tamiya has a more accurate front windshield area, interior tamiya has more accurate roll cage UT has better dash w/more accurate instrument panel although tamiya inst decal is better tamiya seat has molded in seatbelst unfortunately UT has elctronic boxes tamiya lacks, engine ut has more engine block detail tamiya has better cam coverssuspension Tamiyas suspension seems a little crisper wheras the UT has much better brakes w/seperate calipers bottom line both are excellent UT has surpised me with their first release and the only GT1 97 out there for now quality pretty closer to tamiyas and surpasses tamiya by having lower price detailed front underhood d detail more accurate interior only negative is body should be slightly wider to be in scale w/tamiya kit Herpa has announsed 1/87 911 Ca rrera 4 coupe and cabrio photos show the newcarrera 4 style wheel9 feb 99 wow sorry Known 911 (993) turbo Models

1/18 scale: Anson new colors silver(announced again recently), Guards red (tan int), Black (blk int), Arena Red(grey int), Yellow
review: a barely acceptable model at an affordable price. I was afraid this was going to be a Burago copy with spoilers, but it's pretty accurate in a rough sort of way with properly bulged rear fenders the body is close but the paint finish is poor and their are some coarse areas that could use some sanding and filing on the body. The paint is poor because it appears that the parts are painted seperately. on some parts the colors don't match, ther is an excess of orange peel. I recently received the black and guards red versions and the paint is much better, smoother and with less flaws, still not as good as Burago but I think they are now polishing the bodies out. The body is relatively accurate> I think they used the BBurago 993 as a starting point and added the apropriate turbo modifications. This model has a greater amount of detail than the BBurago, it has a sunroof etched into it, and windshield washer nozzles on the hood. The wheels are close but the tires although properly marked and with proper tread pattern have over engraved side walls and are perhaps slightly too narrow. The doors lack the proper window framing of the real car, although some of the latest versions have the frame for the quarter window. There is rudimentary engine detail and it's acceptable. The interior has a few inaccurate knobs and the passenger door has 2 window switches (should only have 1) In general the large size allows more detail but also allows us to see flaws, I would suggest this one is a nice toy but it's rough around the edges but you get a great model with lots of detail 7.5/10

Minichamps/UT Arena red with grey int., Black, Silver with boxster red int. Pale yellow turbo S version with black interior. a million times better! better than the Anson version It definitely has a better fit and finish than the Anson model , It really has only one real flaw, it lacks rear window roof spoiler , however the turbo S version has this spoiler but is misising rear wiper, it also has the special sport seats, doors have framed windows, nose sits slightly lower and more accurate than Anson version, side marker light may be a little too high, wheels and tires are definitely more accurate but tires are without sidewall lettering.(Pirelli tread not Bridgestones) Better brake discs look like they may have less perforations than the real car (I'll count them later)but definitely better than the ones on the Anson, no calipers however,on early versions of this car later editions have great calipers!!!!! and flocking to represent carpeting exhaust tips shaped like the optional chrome ones interior nicely detailed, unfortunately drivers door has only one window switch and the rear deck lacks the proper speakers, the doors and engine cover and trunk open, the seams are so good you might noe even know these parts opened the trunk has the optional strut bar in it and is probably more accurate for the GT2 color Arena red price in the mid to high $20 range and definitely of better quality than the Anson version I cannot reccomend any 993 turbo model higher, even without the roof spoiler (I plan to make my own) this one gets a 9.9/10
Updated review:have received the silver verison of car which comes complet w/calipers in red w/proper white "porsche" lettering also recieve d the turbo S variant in a pale yellow which is unfortunate as most yellow ones were more of a fly yellow color however this is a great model proper turbo S wing and spoilers and air intake even down to turbo s script on tail and interior boasts sport seats!!!!!!!!!! with back painted body color also a roof spoiler!!!! although it does not have the indetation ion it like on real car its good they at least added it my only critique is that perhaps the rear fender intakes could be deeper and the tail pipes are dual outlets on ea side like on the turbo S 3.6 liter version which is correct overall a great great model and a must have, even the wheel center caps have the proper turbo S markings wow!!!!!!!!
1/10 scale HPI radio control car body

1/24 scale Italerei/Revell plastic kit
review: total crap don't waste your money, wheels and tires are inaccurate, interior inaccurate some fit problems just crap not up to todays standards help us Fujimi or Tamiya on a scale of 1-10 this one only gets a 7 I collect every 993 Turbo model and I won't even buy another of these, its junk!

1/43 scale MR models resin kit or built up Built ups available in MR 25CArena red MR25AYellow MR 25B Dark Green Metallic
review: nice model some proportional inacccuracies but makes a nice collectible the BBR built ups are little works of art but expensive, however worth it because they are beautiful, this model also available in kit form 9/10 MR 72 993 turboS in yellow

1/43 Schuco: available in Arena red(Porsche boxed), Metallic black, Speed Yellow, Guards Red

Special editions: in light Blue (Modell Fahrzeug), Mint Green (Automania) and Black (X-mas 96) The special editions have special bases and are numbered, the numbers are usually under the bases. Ther was also a pink version which was given away in a contest by Model Fahrzeug magazine in Germany, supposedly 12 were made, if you have one let me know!

review: an excellent replica falls down only in there are small mold lines on some that I have seen and the brake discs aren't drilled (I know I have no right to bitch about brake discs in this scale its amazing to even have them) and some minor interior inaccuracies, a great replica although teh minchamps version is slightly better 9.7/10

1/43 minichamps apparnetly minichamps is the new supplier for Porsche and i can say i personally was not impressed with the shuco 996 so i am certainly not disapointed This car reviewed is from the Posche turbo set it is silver w/boxster red int, car has roof spolier and it is nice but missng 3rd brake light it ahs visible instruments and a much better interior than the shuco verson as wheel seats and instrumaent s much better, better brake discs, although calipers (absent on shuco verson) on wrong side for fronts, bodyacasting nice w/only slight mold problem n front, better fender mounted turn signal light than shuco, overall a better replica 9.85/10 teh best 1/43 replica

1/87 Herpa available in Arena red, SIlver,(these two are special Porsche promotional models, Green Metallic in PC box as regular edition in black metallic, Dk Blue Metallic, red, and blue also with a number of special editions which are used as advertisements and promotional gifts in Germany and very difficult to find. Herpa 993 turbos

Review: the best replica out there each one is simply amazing I have no complaints other than the presence of very small mold lines 9.8/10

Special Editions of the Herpa 993 turbo

Schmid(a German Paint co.) Dk Blue Metallic with chromed wheels, "Schmid" on side very rare

Siemens(German electric parts co) Dk blue Metallic with a panther on the hood and "Siemens" on hood

Meryl (German plastics/fiberglass co.) Mint green with "Meryl" on the hood and "open your eye" on the side

Clear version with red parts, body and wheels are clear so you can see all the parts and how they are constructed

Team Direct pink with black interior and a black on black model

1/87 Euromodell/IMU yuck! their relatively acceptable 993 coupe with new wheels and a spoiler tacked on the tail, car lacks proper rear skirts and front , however cheap, in Germany haven't seen in US and an interesting cabrio version, multiple colors

Decals for Racing version: UMI decal for the 1996 Pikes Peak Race winner driven by Jeff Zwart. This is the red Valvoline race car as pictured in the BF Goodrich Ad, note the ad shows the wrong wheels, the car was raced with 993 type wheels

Review: great decals for the race car I am using 993 wheels from a Minichamps 993, it requires 2 sets as there needs to be an additional "@ radical media" decal the decals are made to be used with a red Shuco model, some people have had trouble with them not sticking well to the car due to Shucos paint process

Porsche GT1 race car

New GT1 info: The works GT1s feature new bodywork, It is definitely different from the previous years version with new panels all around for the works entries for Le mans this is both good news and bad news to the modeler good news:more variants
bad news:the die cast makers will probably take more time to catch up as they have already invested in the current nose style

GT1 model review

1/8 Gas powered r/c race car by Tamiya
1/10 R/C race car by Tamiya based on the F103 r/c chassis, preliminary info is that the new body will not fit on the basic F102/103
1/10 scale body for R/C cars by HPI
1/18 scale Minichamps/UT models coming soon thus far I have seen photos which show removeable rear engine cover and opening doors. It looks excellent. Available as a white street car version and as car 25 mobil/warsteiner Le Mans version also a car 26 appears to be available also, will probably be available at the best price through Porsche dealer who will discount parts costs for mail order

Anson 1/18 scale: coming soon and probably before the UT version but if history is correct will not be as good but significantly less expensive, thus far only car 25 seen, if anyone gets one of these please tell me what you think as I don't plan on buying it yet as I am waiting for the UT versions Someone who has seen it has told me it's not very impressive, buy it as a gift for you teenage nephew but buy yourself th UT version

1/14 scale expensive made in Germany regular and test version available otherwise no info yet

1/24 Tamiya plastic kit approx $22
Just got it! An excellent kit, it reminds me of the 956 from Tamiya as quality and execution are equivalent. Detailed chassis plate, interior and engine compartment. 1 bag of black plastic parts, 1 bag of white, the body molded in white and 4 pieces not counting wing, 1 satin chrome tree, rubber tires, poly caps, window masks and a totally awesome decal sheet every marking with detailed placement diagram. Decal sheet may be missing the "Made in Flacht" decal in the rear vent, unclear if LeMans cars carried the marjing although the BPR version appears to have had it (Flacht is a small town near Weissach)If you like plastic models you can't go wrong with this one, a few minor complaints, decals for carbon fiber around the window frame would have been much easier than masking and painting black, but at least Tamiya provides an adhesive mask, engine block and turbos could have had more detail, especially the turbos, but the same problem is present with the Tamiya 956, part C18 is listed as being painted chrome silver, however I have a picture of a test car showing that front radiator it's hard to tell if its a matt aluminum color or black, a close approximation would be matt silver with a heavy flat black wash.(see the Racer magazine article) what confuses the issue even more is the fact that the PM high details show this as a flat panel not a radiator, I believe the PM panel here is a cover to prevent foreign object from entering and thus either detail is correct. A removeable front hood would have been nice, hood features finely detailed hood pins that will probably lose detail wth painting. The chromed parts will have to be stripped by the advanced modeler, but detail abounds like vent hoses in interior and clamps for exhaust pipes, It even has the interior ductwork for the roof mounted air intake! The seat may need slight modifications for the obsessive modeler and has decals for the seatbelts. The instructions list Tamiya color codes for the blue mirrors which may not be the corect shade of blue, overall this kit is just awesomeI'll try to build this kit eventually and detail any inaccuracies I find as The Upietz book is on it's way to me and I'm sure that will have wonderful reference photos to use 9.8/10 click here to see photos of kit Tamiya GT1

1/43 Minichamps
2 versions car as introduced with no interior and lacking the very small fender flares, with Warsteiner decals, this is the car as in the studio photograph Porsche released when the car was introduced thus far seen only in Porsche packaging and to my knowledge no longer available, I have recently heard these are worth 100 DM or more I have also heard very few got it and they may even have been recalled because Porsche didn't have permission from Warsteiner Click here to see some Minichamps GT1
Race versions car 25 seen in both Porsche dealer and minichamps package car 26 thus far seen only in minichamps packaging has an antennae on the roof. Have heard that car 26 is available in Porsche packaging in Germany however
Review: Excellent replicas on the money when it comes to shape and markings only one critique car 26 is not missing a small fender piece like the real race car otherwise this is the way to go I suggest you buy the Le mans versions and build a carbon test car vesion
97 GT1 evolution version is niow available see Minichamps GT1

review kit badly out of proportion a total waste of time and money buy only if you have to have everything and are willing to buy junk, although they do have a BPR version, if only you could just buy the decals and put them on the Provence version
1997 cars 25 and 26 have been announced this years car features boxster style nose and other major differences, hopefully Starter will get this one right

1/43 Provence Moulage
Regular version and high detail with interior and engine highly complicated high detail version when put together looks good but I think the carbon fiber engine decals are slightly incorrect on the high detail version but who is going to notice. Kit is available as LeMans version and carbon fiber test car version as regular and high detail new releases include the Roock racing version and a Marlboro version Overall the most accurate replica out there. Click here to see some Provence and 1 Starter kit Resin 1/43 GT1

1/87 Le Mans Miniatures I have not seen these yet but have heard they will be available as kits, pre-painted and built up

1/87 GT1 Mobil/Warsteiner race transporter coming later this year no details yet may be available in sept

Reference Materials:
Der Erfolgstyp-911GT1 by Ulrich Upietz a must have 224 color pages over 300 color pics now available The reference to have review this book is incredible tons of photos and great pics of the race transporter and equipment, could have had a few more interior detail pictures however worth every penny of the almost $90 it cost me
a second volume is planned for spring 98
Porsche Sieg Lemans 96 by Ulrich Upietz this book details the 1996 race and the GT1 race cars and the winning Joest Porsche relatively expensive but worth it due to the large numbers of photographs, don't confuse this with Porsche Sieg LeMans 94
Sports Car Illustrated June/July 97 pp 38-41 good engine photo, fair interior pic, article about test driving "test" version good carbon fiber skin pics
